Signs that your Lymphatic system needs a bit of TLC
Common signs include:
Regular headaches, brain fog, swollen lymph nodes and tonsils, low energy and feeling fatigued, recurring sore throats, frequent colds or flu, constipation or sluggish bowel function, inability to lose weight (toxins play a part in holding on to weight), bloating, heaviness or swelling, sore breasts and swelling with menstrual cycle, acne, dry skin and other skin issues.
What's the benefits of a lymphatic drainage massage.
There are so many amazing benefits of lymphatic drainage massage. Those include:
Deep relaxation, improved and deeper sleep, increased energy, improved circulation, reduced blood pressure, improved digestive function, increased bowel movements and urination, reduced appearance of cellulite, reduced fluid retention, acne will significantly decrease, although initially it may become worse, regulation of menstrual cycle, reduced inflammation in the body and boosts immune system.
Why's it so important to use natural skincare when it comes to the health of our Lymphatic system?
The reason it's so important to use clean beauty products is because everything we put on the skin is absorbed by the lymphatic system, so if we are loading harsh chemicals onto our skin we are compromising our lymphatic system and making it work over time to detoxify and cleanse the body.
What's your current AM skincare routine like?
It depends on the day; I like to mix up my morning and night routines at the moment. I always use clean beauty products and as a general rule I will always start with a cleanse, a face mist, an eye serum, a vitamin C serum and a moisturiser. I always try to do a few minutes of either facial lymphatic drainage massage, cupping or gua sha, sometimes all if I'm looking super puffy from a bad night's sleep. Sometimes I'll add in a face mask, or I will apply some reusable eye jellies under my eyes while I finish the rest of my morning routine.
I always ALWAYS finish my morning skincare routine with the MOTHER SPF Tinted Touch Up SPF! I love how it isn't too greasy, leaves a nice matte finish and gives me a bit ofcoverage throughout the day.
The 5 best ways we can support our Lymphatic system this silly season
Great question! Here are my top 5:
- Stay hydrated!
So important to keep the body hydrated especially in summer when we are naturally more dehydrated. When we drink adequate amounts of water it allows the fluids in the body to flush the toxins more efficiently.
- Self Massage / Lymphatic Drainage Treatments.
Manually draining stagnant fluid in the body will reduce the build-up of toxins, boost our immune system and reduce inflammation in the body.
- Breathe deeply!
This time of year, can be stressful so remember to breathe. Not only will this reduce your stress levels, but it will also pump the diaphragm up and down which stimulates the cisterna chyli to drain fluid from the lower body, up the thoracic duct and back into the blood.
- Ocean swims / cold showers
The cold water stimulates the lymph vessels to contract which helps propel the lymph through the body.
- Use a clean, mineral SPF!
Always use an SPF, especially in summer to prevent the risk of sunburns and skin cancers. As we know whatever we put on our skin will eventually end up in our lymphatic system so choosing an SPF that doesn't contain harsh chemicals will take a lot of pressure off this system.
Lastly, what's the best health advice you have ever received? and your favourite daily health ritual.
The best advice would have to be that consistency is key, especially when it comes to health. I have so many favourite daily health rituals! My favourites would have to be scraping my tongue, drinking a litre of hot water before I eat anything (after I've scraped my tongue), my full body lymphatic activation technique (takes under a minute to do, I have a reel of how to on my Instagram) and lastly, facial massage.
You can book in with Sophie here and if you do not live in NSW, you can follow her here for tips on how to do your own lymphatic massage.
